Are Sri Lanka Gold products made using Fair Trade principles?

Our founders, Nihal and Sheri Pitigala, brings decades of experience in supporting local farmers and enterprises in developing countries to integrate into formal markets. Sri Lanka Gold brings their passion and experience to build a Fair Trade platform that will support the farmers and their communities. They receive a price premium (over local market prices) that goes directly into our farmers’ pockets. We are also committed to investing a share of our profits to improve their livelihoods, which will be used to fund on-farm productivity to increase yields and, therefore, incomes, as well as community projects that benefit their families.

Are Sri Lanka Gold’s coconuts sustainably sourced?

Sri Lanka Gold is made from 100% organically-grown King Coconuts. Cultivated for generations using only what Mother Nature provided – fertile soils, tropical sunshine and monsoon rains – we are committed to maintaining a sustainable supply chain. Our famers and their communities utilize the byproducts for organic mulching, household cleaning (the husk makes a great pot-scrubber!), and biofuel.

Why do you use plastic bottles? Are they BPA-free?

We use plastic, BPA-free bottles. Compared to glass, our plastic uses less energy to be recycled. It is also lighter, so less fuel is used to produce and deliver each bottle of coconut water. Also, our method of high pressure processing requires that we use a plastic container, in place of both glass and paper, which are used for products that are heat-treated.

Is Sri Lanka Gold suitable for a vegan diet?

Sri Lanka Gold is Vegan certified and is a great choice for vegans.

Can I drink Sri Lanka Gold if I am lactose intolerant or on a gluten-free diet?

Yes, our products are dairy-free and are gluten-free.

How should I store my coconut water?

Keep it chilled in the refrigerator until you are ready to consume it.

What are the nutritional benefits of Sri Lanka Gold?

Sri Lanka Gold is full to the brim with hydrating electrolytes, including significant levels of potassium, magnesium and phosphorous, as well as calcium and Vitamin C. It is also lower in sugar, making it the perfect sports drink and part of a healthy lifestyle.

Is Sri Lanka Gold pasteurized?

Sri Lanka Gold products are not pasteurized in the traditional sense. They are never heat-treated. Instead we use high-pressure processing (HPP), also known as “cold pressure”, to extend shelf left and maintain both the flavor and naturally-occurring vitamins, electrolytes, and other minerals. This cutting edge food technology is different from standard pasteurization. Standard pasteurization exposes food and beverages to excessive heat that strongly diminishes its nutritional value and natural flavor. HPP is a food and beverage processing technique where products, already sealed in their final packaging, are introduced into a vessel and subjected to tens of thousands of pounds of water pressure. Similar to standard pasteurization methods that use heat, HPP neutralizes molecules that would otherwise cause coconut water to spoil, without the use of heat or chemical preservatives. This extends Sri Lanka Gold’s shelf life from a few days to more than two months. Because it does not cause molecular damage, HPP maintains the original freshness of our coconut water and its nutritional value, preserving the beneficial vitamins, minerals and enzymes naturally present and a fresh-from-the-nut taste.

Does Sri Lanka Gold contain preservatives?

Nope, never. No preservatives are ever used in our products. Our products are therefore perishable, but that is the only way to can guarantee our fresh-from-the-nut flavor.

Does Sri Lanka Gold add sugar?

We never add sugar to our coconut water. King Coconuts are known for their subtly sweet flavor and we want our consumers to taste it just like Mother Nature intended.

Is Sri Lanka Gold made from concentrate?

No, our coconut water is never from concentrate.

Why is my coconut water pink? Is it safe to drink?

The antioxidants in coconut water can turn it pink when exposed to light. It is a naturally occurring process and has not impact on Sri Lanka Gold’s safety, flavor or nutrition. Drink up and enjoy!

Why do I have to keep Sri Lanka Gold refrigerated?

Unlike many of our competitors, our coconut water is never heat-treated (i.e. heat pasteurized). Heat pasteurization destroys the natural flavor and nutrients. In return for our shorter shelf-life, Sri Lanka Gold delivers a fresh-from-the-nut experience, with all the flavor and nutrition as Mother Nature-intended.

Is Sri Lanka Gold certified Organic and non-GMO verified?

Sri Lanka Gold is certified organic by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is Non-GMO Project Verified.

Where do Sri Lanka Gold coconuts come from?

Sri Lanka Gold’s King Coconuts are sourced from a network of family farmers in Sri Lanka, a tropical paradise off the southern tip of India in the Indian Ocean.

Where is Sri Lanka Gold bottled?
